Mission Statement

Bears in the Park as an Art Place supports the transdisciplinary performance scene in Vienna through three core pillars: a residency program, the Huggy Bears Supporting Program, and a strong connection to the wider public and our local neighborhood through public events.
Everything we do is rooted in our commitment to artists and to a free, accessible, and vibrant cultural landscape in Vienna.

The Residency Program

In our 600m² space in Vienna’s 11th district, we offer free to low-cost studio residencies for artists working in:

Sound
Visual arts
Transdisciplinary performance practices
Our facilities include:

A 250m² dance studio
A 66m² dance studio
An atelier
A sound studio
A kitchen and meeting space
An office
A small garden

The Huggy Bears Supporting Program

Each year, the Program supports up to four projects by emerging artists through:

Regular feedback sessions
Dramaturgical and administrative support
Public sharings of work-in-progress
Workshops, both in-house and in collaboration with partners — for example, participation in "Technologies of Spectacle" workshops at WUK, and artistic workshops at ImPulsTanz
Networking opportunities within the local performance scene
The opportunity to premiere the supported work on the stages of brut or WUK.performingarts
The program is financially supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry of BWKKMS.

As a Cultural Anchor Center supported by the City of Vienna, we are committed to:

Accessibility and a non-elitist approach to art
Creating open spaces for artistic exchange
Building partnerships with institutions and festivals across Vienna and beyond to strengthen collaboration
